Marine Historical Museum

This mega building also called Casa de la Cultura (Culture House) is located in the city of Puntarenas (the capital) in the old barracks. It has also been restored to contain an amphitheater, the Public Library and a museum. The Culture House holds monthly exhibitions of painting and sculpture, while the amphitheater offers live shows, dance and music performances every month. That said, no matter in which month you visit this building, you will be able to attend a show.

As for the museum, it will reveal archaeological informations that tell more about the first indigenous peoples of the region. These informations will let you know how they used to feed themselves with the various resources in the area. You will also understand the funeral rites they practiced and the relationships they maintained in their trade. The museum will go further by showing you the diversity of the natural resources of the area: marshes, forests, marine species, land animals and birds. It will also explain the importance of the Nicoya Gulf,its islands and its history. The building welcomes visitors Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:45 am to 5:45 pm. Enjoy your visit!
