This waterfall is located near the city of Bagaces, just over a 30-minute drive south of Liberia.
The path that leads there is a bit steep but is not difficult to walk on. From the parking lot, visitors can get there within only 10 to 15 minutes. Unlike the Rio Celeste waterfall, visitors are allowed to swim there. The waterfall is 12 meters high and the basin in which it falls is 15 meters wide and 3.5 meters deep.
While going there, if you plan to swim, make sure you already have your swimsuit on, because there is no room to change. There is no toilet either, but the place has a sort of facility they call «porta-potty» which is in the parking lot.
While you’ll be there, you’ll understand why this is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Costa Rica. There is a dense forest surrounding it and in which there are some birds and howler monkeys.
It is recommended to go there on a day of the week, early in the morning or late in the afternoon. No matter what time of the day you decide to go, do not forget to bring a mosquito repellent.
You can rent a 4X4 vehicle, but it is not really a necessity. The parking fee which includes surveillance is approximately $4. There is no entrance fee to this site, but you will be asked to donate an amount of money to encourage a school in the municipality; you can give whatever you want.
In case you’ll want to relax, it will be possible to do so, because there is a sand area provided for this purpose. However, we recommend having non-slip water shoes as the rocks are slippery. The opening hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Go ahead, and don’t forget to have fun !
