Doka Estate Coffee Plantation is one of the oldest coffee plantations in Costa Rica. This family plantation began coffee cultivation no later than the 1940s. Today, the Vargas Ruiz family has been cultivating and supplying coffee to Costa Ricans and some other countries around the world for more than 70 years. The property is located in the valleys of Alajuela, on the fertile slopes of Poas volcano, just 30 km northwest of San Jose. When you’ll go to Alajuela, this visit will not only be fun, it will be very informative, because it will plunge you in the depths of very detailed explanations of the coffee production. You will carefully listen to the very knowledgeable guides explaining clearly the «From grain to cup» process.
You will also stop at the Tres Generaciones processing factory; it is very old and has even been declared an architectural heritage site for humanity in 2003. After the factory, you will be taken to the gift shop and will have the opportunity to taste the 8 different mixtures. Acclaimed for its outstanding coffee, Doka Estate Coffee Plantation is a Must for all coffee lovers. The harvest season runs from September to February, so it is the best time to visit the plantation. You can go there every day of the week, at different times of the day.
